Decentralized applications popularly known as dApps are applications that can operate autonomously through the use of smart contracts. They exist on a peer-to-peer (P2P) network of computers such as blockchain or other distributed ledger systems. Although dApps provide some functions or utility to their users just like traditional applications, they operate without human intervention and are not controlled by a single authority thereby making them decentralized.

DApps (blockchain-based) can do anything mobile or web applications can do, while maintaining privacy, as well as bypassing middlemen and keeping immutable records. One of the major benefits of decentralized applications is censorship resistance.
